The death toll in the massive fire that broke out in a three-storey commercial building near Delhi’s Mundka Metro Station on Friday jumped to 27, police said late evening. Around 40 people are said to have sustained burn injuries and are undergoing treatment in hospital. Around 30 fire tenders were still working at the spot and ambulances were stationed to provide medical assistance to the rescued victims. “So far 50 people have been rescued, 26 died in the fire. Rescue operation continues,” DCP Sameer Sharma, Outer District said.
Meanwhile, the police have detained the owner of the building and his antecedents are being examined. Based on preliminary enquiry, the police said that it was a three-storey commercial building used for providing office space for companies. The fire incident initiated from the 1st floor of the building, which is an office of CCTV cameras and router manufacturing company. However, the cause of the fire still remains unknown.
