Gandhinagar, Thursday: UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson visists Gujarat today. He visited the country’s
first ever Gujarat Biotechnology University at Gandhinagar today. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendrabhai
Patel and Science and Technology Minister Jitubhai Vaghani were also present on the occasion.
When he arrived at Gujarat Biodiversity University, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel gave him a
warm welcome. The Chief Minister then gave detailed information to Mr. Johnson while inspecting
various facilities of the Universit

Giving details to the media after Boris Johnson’s visit, Science and Technology Minister Jitubhai Vaghani
said that it is the pride of India and Gujarat that this university started under the guidance of the then
Chief Minister and present Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and shall become India’s hub in research
and technology.
Minister Jitubhai Vaghani added that Gujarat Biotechnology University has collaborated with the
University of Edinburgh which would strengthen the research profile of the state and make it available
in an international standard state that would encourage the young scientists of the state to achieve their
goals.

He added that Gujarat Biotechnology University would provide world class infrastructure to the students
for product development from the outset at a time when huge investments are required in the field of
biotechnology to provide expensive equipment and state-of-the-art facilities. These features will provide
a world-class platform for such researchers.
He further added that with the inspiration of the Prime Minister, the long awaited research and
standard in the field of biotechnology in India has come to an end today. A world class atmosphere will
be available in this university. The University will also be equipped with state-of-the-art technical testing
facilities, containment greenhouses and research building facilities in the near future.
He added that Gujarat Biotechnology University(GBU) would be a ‘living laboratory’ for higher education
scheme. This model will be the ideal model all over India. The GBU will prioritize a deeper and more
meaningful partnership between the UK and India in higher education. UK Prime Minister’s visit to GBU
will highlight a significant opportunity for international collaboration in education, science and
technology across India and the UK. In addition, Gujarat Biotechnology University will be a part of the
engine that drives the development of Gujarat in the field of science for life. Which will provide industry-
ready talent, an innovative ecosystem and a friendly institutional partnership in the field of research.
He added that various branches like Animal, Medical Environment of Biotechnology, industrial and plant
biotechnology are available at GBU. With the allocation of sufficient funds by the state government for
the further development of GBU, the state government will make efforts to make this university more
and more famous and brighten the name of Gujarat globally for future research.
