New Delhi: Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was on Saturday elected as India’s new Vice President. He got 528 votes against opposition candidate Margaret Alva who got 182 votes. The polling to elect the new vice president began at 10 am today and concluded at 5 pm. Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominated members, voted in the vice presidential poll. Numbers stacked in favour of NDA’s candidate amid former West Bengal governor Dhankhar, who wa set for an easy win. His rival, 80-year-old Alva is a Congress veteran and has served as governor of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, while the 71-year-old Dhankhar is a Jat leader from Rajasthan with socialist background.
